Chelsea lining up move for Joel Ordonez

Chelsea have intensified their pursuit of Club Brugge centre-back Joel Ordonez, with scouts recently making the trip to Belgium to run the rule over the highly-rated 22-year-old Colombian.

According to TEAMtalk, the Blues have significantly stepped up their interest following a dismal season that has seen two managerial changes and a string of defensive horror shows. Their latest low came against Nottingham Forest, who raced into a two-goal lead inside 15 minutes — exposing a Chelsea backline that has offered little authority or leadership all campaign.

Who Is Joel Ordonez?

Since joining the Belgian giants in 2022, Ordonez has established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting young defenders. He has racked up 115 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with six goals, and was a regular presence in Brugge’s Champions League campaign before their round-of-16 exit to Atlético Madrid.

Standing at 6ft 2in, the Colombian international combines physicality with composure — exactly the type of authoritative presence missing from Chelsea’s current crop of centre-backs.

Fierce Competition for His Signature

Chelsea won’t have it easy. Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Aston Villa are all circling, with Brugge expected to demand £35 million to sanction a sale.

Verdict

With the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoît Badiashile, and Wesley Fofana all falling short this season, a major defensive overhaul is non-negotiable at Stamford Bridge. Ordonez ticks every box — and at 22, his best years are still ahead of him. The race is on.
