Chelsea Transfer News: Trent Alexander-Arnold Linked With Shock Stamford Bridge Move

Chelsea Target Right Wing-Back Upgrade

Two successive wins since the international break have put Chelsea back in the race for a top-five finish. A return to the Champions League is the aim after a season without European football.

With one game a week for much of the campaign, Xabi Alonso’s squad depth won’t be tested as heavily. Even so, the Blues will need summer investment if they want to challenge for silverware next season.

According to Simon Phillips, right wing-back is a priority area. Chelsea have reportedly identified Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold as a surprise option. The 28-year-old is valued at £50 million by Transfermarkt.

Why Alexander-Arnold Could Leave Real Madrid

Dani Carvajal and Federico Valverde are said to rank above Alexander-Arnold in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order. If his playing time stays limited in the coming months, the England international may be open to a Premier League return.

How He Would Fit at Chelsea

At right wing-back, Alexander-Arnold’s line-breaking passes, chance creation and pinpoint crossing would add real quality. Playing higher up the pitch would also hide his weaknesses without the ball.

Pedro Neto, who has featured in the role this season, could then be used further forward to boost Chelsea’s attacking depth. Reece James is the stronger defender and can slot into a back three if needed. The Chelsea captain has also shown more value in midfield, so his long-term position remains open.

Will a Chelsea Move Happen?

A deal looks unlikely. Alexander-Arnold spent most of his career at Liverpool, and that strong Merseyside connection makes a switch to Stamford Bridge hard to imagine. Any Premier League return would most likely be to Anfield.
