Everton Miss Out as RB Leipzig Win Race for Johan Bakayoko

Everton’s pursuit of PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko has hit a roadblock, with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig swooping in to seal a deal for the highly-rated Belgian international.

Toffees Eye Bakayoko to Bolster Attack

Sean Dyche’s Everton have been actively hunting for attacking reinforcements this summer, especially in the wide areas. With Jack Harrison returning to Leeds United and Jesper Lindstrom not retained, the Toffees have been scanning the market for creative spark — and Johan Bakayoko quickly emerged as a top target.

The 22-year-old winger, known for his flair, speed, and eye for goal, has been one of PSV Eindhoven’s standout performers in recent seasons. Since making his debut in 2022, Bakayoko has racked up 33 goals and 22 assists in 131 appearances, firmly establishing himself as a rising star in European football.

Six-Club Scrap for Belgian Star

Everton weren’t alone in admiring the Overijse-born talent. A transfer battle quickly unfolded, with Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, Bournemouth, and Nottingham Forest all entering the race. Despite the intense competition, it was RB Leipzig who moved swiftly to wrap up a deal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bakayoko is set to join Leipzig for €22 million including add-ons, with medical tests already lined up.

What’s Next for Everton?

Missing out on Bakayoko is undoubtedly a blow for Everton, who had hoped to bring fresh energy and creativity to their flanks. With the Belgian winger Leipzig-bound, the Toffees will now shift their attention to alternative targets — names like Takefusa Kubo remain on their radar as they push to strengthen before the new Premier League season kicks off.
