Newcastle United rekindle interest in Karl Etta Eyong

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly back in the hunt for Levante’s attacking talent Karl Etta Eyong, as the Magpies look to solve their striking woes.

The 22-year-old Cameroonian international burst onto the scene this season with an electrifying start—six goals and three assists in his first ten La Liga appearances had Europe’s elite circling. Barcelona were among those keeping close tabs on the former Villarreal prospect who’d moved to Levante in search of regular first-team football.

However, football’s a game of two halves, and Etta Eyong’s form has dramatically cooled. Ten matches without a goal contribution has seen some Spanish suitors lose interest, but Premier League clubs remain undeterred by the drought.

Why Newcastle Are Pushing Ahead

The Tyneside club face a genuine crisis up front following Alexander Isak’s departure. Nick Woltemade hasn’t convinced, whilst Yoane Wissa’s injury troubles have left Howe desperately short of options in the final third.

Newcastle’s scouting department remain impressed by Etta Eyong’s physical attributes, power and raw potential—qualities that suit the demanding pace of English football. The club view this as a strategic long-term investment rather than a quick fix, with the player’s current dip in form potentially working in their favour.

The Deal Structure

Levante’s financial difficulties could prove decisive. Despite Etta Eyong’s contract running until 2029, the Spanish side are prepared to listen to offers around €30 million—a manageable fee for Newcastle’s ambitious project.

Whether the Magpies can capitalise on this opportunity remains to be seen, but Howe clearly sees something special in the young forward.
