Manchester United and Liverpool Target Feyenoord Midfielder Quinten Timber
Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly set to battle it out for the signature of Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber, according to Caught Offside.
United have already kicked off their summer transfer window by securing Matheus Cunha from Wolves, but new manager Ruben Amorim is eyeing further reinforcements. A top priority is bringing in a striker to compete with Rasmus Højlund, but midfield upgrades are also firmly on the agenda.
With Christian Eriksen departing on a free and Casemiro struggling to maintain consistency, United’s midfield options are thinning. Currently, Amorim has Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte at his disposal, while Bruno Fernandes continues to deputise deeper, despite being a natural No.10. Kobbie Mainoo—impressive under Erik ten Hag—has been used in a more advanced role by Amorim, and Toby Collyer has struggled with injuries.
Timber’s Contract Situation Could Spark Bidding War
According to reports, United have expressed concrete interest in Timber, who is entering the final year of his contract. Feyenoord are in talks to extend the Dutchman’s stay, but if no agreement is reached, they are prepared to sell him for around £21 million.
Liverpool are also tracking the 23-year-old, who fits their long-term midfield rebuild plans. Although the Reds have prioritised other areas this summer, Timber’s versatility—capable of playing both as a defensive midfielder and a box-to-box engine—makes him an appealing target.
Fitness a Concern?
One caveat remains: Timber has been sidelined since February with a serious knee injury. Any potential move will likely hinge on medical assessments and whether he can return to peak performance.
Still, if fit, Timber could prove a smart signing for either club as they reshape their squads ahead of the new season.
