Liverpool plot €50m bid for Ronald Araujo
Liverpool are reportedly preparing a €50 million move for Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo, as the Uruguayan’s uncertain future continues to spark transfer speculation.
Araujo’s Struggles at Barcelona
Araujo came close to leaving Camp Nou last January when Juventus pursued him heavily, but Barcelona tied him down to a long-term deal until 2031. That move temporarily silenced the rumours, but the defender’s role has since diminished.

Under Hansi Flick, the 26-year-old has often been benched in favour of Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez. Even after Martinez’s departure to Al-Nassr, Araujo’s minutes have remained limited, fuelling talk of an exit.
Premier League Clubs on Alert
Araujo’s situation has not gone unnoticed in England. Tottenham and Chelsea have both shown interest, with the latter exploring a move in the summer after Levi Colwill’s injury scare. However, it’s Liverpool who appear the most serious at this stage.
The Reds had previously lined up Marc Guehi as their priority defensive signing. But with Real Madrid pushing to land the Crystal Palace star, Liverpool are now eyeing Araujo as a strong alternative.
Liverpool Ready to Test Barcelona’s Resolve
According to Fichajes, Liverpool are willing to table a €50 million bid for Araujo in the January window. Barcelona’s ongoing financial difficulties could make them vulnerable to such an offer, despite the player’s contract running until 2031.
For Liverpool, signing Araujo would add depth and quality to their backline, though breaking into the starting XI won’t be straightforward. With Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate still first-choice, Araujo would need to fight for regular minutes at Anfield.
The January window could prove decisive, with Barcelona facing pressure to balance their books and Liverpool keen to reinforce their defence for the second half of the season.
